The Eleven Minutes That Changed Everything
For eleven minutes, I believed I was watching my husband throw away the rest of his life.
He had driven to the prison release gate before sunrise, his hands tight around the steering wheel and a loaded rifle locked inside the truck. Our daughter Jenna had spent years trying to rebuild herself after what had happened to her. Now the man responsible was being released, and my husband had convinced himself that one final act of violence would somehow balance the scales.
I knew what he was thinking because I had seen the same thought in his eyes every night since Jenna came home broken.
But before he could reach the gate, motorcycles appeared on the gravel road.
One after another.
