Kai Trump has revealed another unexpected  health setback after undergoing surgery for a wrist injury, forcing the 19-year-old golfer to rethink what she had planned for the coming months.

Trump shared the news with followers through a hospital selfie and a lengthy social media update, explaining that the procedure was not something she originally expected to need.

After consulting with her  family, coaches, and athletic training staff, however, she ultimately decided surgery was the best option for both her health and her future in golf.

“It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn.”The  injury occurred during her first  golf tournament of the season.

Trump initially hoped she would be able to recover without an operation, but after evaluating her options, she chose to undergo the procedure.“I recently underwent  surgery to repair a wrist injury I sustained during my first tournament of the season.”

The surgery was performed at HSS in New York.

Trump thanked the medical team who treated her, writing:

“A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me.”

The photograph accompanying her announcement showed Trump resting against white hospital pillows while wearing a patterned medical gown and black-framed glasses.

A large black brace covered one arm, while medical tape and tubing could be seen near the other.

Despite the circumstances, she offered a small smile for the camera.

Her post quickly drew messages of encouragement from followers.

One person wrote:

“Speedy recovery 💪🏻❤️🙏.”

Another praised her resilience, calling her the “Strongest person ever,” while another commenter expressed concern about the pain she might be experiencing.

Trump herself did not provide specific details about how painful the procedure or recovery had been.

Instead, she focused on the people supporting her.

“Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

The latest surgery comes at an important moment in her young golf career.

According to her University of Miami athletics profile, Trump is a freshman on the Hurricanes women’s golf roster for the 2026-27 season.

Before beginning college, she helped her high school golf team capture four consecutive district championships.

Although she has not announced exactly when she expects to return to competitive golf, she made it clear that getting back to her teammates remains a major motivation.

“I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love.”

She ended her update on an optimistic note.

“I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!”

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a wrist injury has interrupted Trump’s golf plans.

Earlier in January 2026, she revealed that she had undergone surgery on her left wrist after suffering an injury months earlier.

That procedure addressed damage involving tissues that stabilize the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon as well as the triangular fibrocartilage complex, an important structure supporting the wrist.

The earlier injury had originally occurred in November.

Trump initially attempted to treat it with immobilization rather than immediately choosing surgery.

She later explained:

“I got surgery January 6th and then I hurt it originally November, but I tried casting it because I thought I thought it was going to heal.”

When the wrist failed to improve after approximately two months, surgery became necessary.

Her recovery was lengthy.

During an April conversation with her father, Donald Trump Jr., on a golf course, Trump admitted that she still had not returned to hitting full golf shots.

She had initially hoped to be back by her May birthday, but eventually realized that timetable was unrealistic.

“I’m hoping, like, July, I can start playing again full-time. I think that’s like a good realistic time frame.”

Her father jokingly suggested that she could at least play miniature golf.

Trump responded:

“Yeah…I can putt 18 holes, but definitely cannot hit a shot.”

Although she had started rebuilding strength in her forearm, Trump remained careful about returning too quickly.

When the possibility of reinjuring her wrist came up, she admitted:

“That’s my biggest fear.”

She also experienced some shoulder discomfort during rehabilitation, which she believed could have resulted from uneven strength while recovering.

Then, just months later, another health problem disrupted the beginning of her college experience.

In August, Trump revealed through a vlog that she had contracted strep throat during her first week of school.

The illness affected her appetite so severely that she said she had barely eaten for several days.

Her friend Emma brought groceries and easy-to-prepare meals to help while she was sick.

Trump explained:

“Well, Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven’t eaten in like 3 days.”

Later, she confirmed the illness.

“I’ve been sick with Strep. So, I actually have not vlogged. I got sick with Strep on Wednesday, my first week of school.”

The infection affected her voice as well.

“This is the best I’ve sounded in probably four days now.”

Eventually, Trump decided to leave school temporarily and return to Jupiter, Florida, so she could recover with help from her mother.

“I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed like my mom to nurse me back to health.”

Now, only months after dealing with that illness and following an earlier lengthy wrist rehabilitation, Trump once again faces time away from the sport she has built much of her life around.

For a young  golfer beginning her collegiate career, another recovery period is clearly not what she had planned.

But her message suggests that she is trying to look beyond the immediate disappointment.

Instead of rushing her return, Trump appears focused on protecting her long-term ability to compete.

The exact timetable remains unclear.

What is clear is that  golf remains firmly in her plans.

After  injuries, surgery, months of rehabilitation, and an illness that disrupted the beginning of college, Trump is once again facing the challenge of working her way back.

And judging by the message she shared from her hospital bed, she fully intends to return to the course.
